About Dymax

Dymax

Dymax* LLC is a company dedicated to helping you with your technology, whether by advising, consulting, diagnosing, repairing, installing, configuring or maintaining.

KenDymaxllc was started by Ken Kobus in 2013. Previously the director of technology at one of Chicago's museums, he spent twenty years there building up the information systems department from a 1-person operation (himself) to an independent multi-person operation responsible for building and maintaining one of the most advanced technology infrastructures in the Chicago museum world at that time. His accomplishments there include designing and installing the museum's state-of-the-art WIFI system, working with his staff and vendors to build the museum's server room that housed an 84-blade IBM render farm to create new shows for the domed theaters and a great deal more. He and his staff supported three sophisticated 200-seat digital theaters, and hosted more than 96 TB's of storage for show development, allowing for the creation of CG-intensive virtual Adlerreality shows for these theaters. All this while maintaining and supporting 60,000 square feet of exhibit space filed with technology-intensive interactive exhibits, an astrophysics research department staffed with PhD astrophysicists from the University of Chicago,  Northwestern University and the university of Illinois (along with the regular museum staff).

In 2013 the museum president retired, and the incoming new "president" outsourced the entire IT department, so he started his own computer repair and consulting business.

He ran this business successfully for three years, but in 2016 accepted a 9 to 5 position at a small computer very close to his house. Here he managed a team of field technicians and system Notebaert Nature museumengineers in the tech support of multiple companies throughout Chicago and suburbs. He left this company at the end of 2018, and pondered whether to re-open his business. While pondering, he took a series of technology consulting/contracting jobs at another Chicago museum.

With the advent of the coronavirus pandemic, with virtually everyone working from home, completing schooling from home and using technology for their quarantine home entertainment, he wondered how these families were getting their technology repaired and configured and re-opened Dymax LLC.

Dymax LLC is residential and small business oriented and we (the royal we) think you'll notice the difference between our commitment to quality versus various corporate solutions out there. No job is too small; no question is "dumb". Call us for all your technology needs including:

Laptops, desktops, tablets, cell phones, wired networks, WIFI, backup solutions, disaster recovery plans, data recovery, virus and malware problems, hardware and software installation, Windows upgrading and more.

We look forward to hearing from you!

*The name Dymax is derived from a word created by one of my early heros, R. Buckminster Fuller. from Wikipedia:

Richard Buckminster Fuller (July 12, 1895 – July 1, 1983) was an American architect, systems theorist, author, designer, inventor, and futurist. Fuller published more thRichard Buckminster Fulleran 30 books, coining or popularizing terms such as "Spaceship Earth", "Dymaxion" (house, car, map...), ephemeralization, synergetic, and "tensegrity". He also developed numerous inventions, mainly architectural designs, and popularized the widely known geodesic dome. Carbon molecules known as fullerenes were later named by scientists for their structural and mathematical resemblance to geodesic spheres.

Fuller associated the word Dymaxion with much of his work, a portmanteau of the words dynamic, maximum, and tension to sum up the goal of his study, "maximum gain of advantage from minimal energy input".

I am very pleased to have attended a lecture by Fuller at the university of Illinois in 1975. He spoke for almost four hours and it was absolutely fascinating!
