Here's a list of online resources for your convenience:

Comcast

COMCAST INTERNET: This is the general Comcast help and support page, and this is the "Xfinity Internet" support page.

AT&T

AT&T DSL INTERNET: This is the AT&T "general support page" (which includes wireless support, if you have an AT&T wireless router) and this is the "Internet and Email Support" page.

PASSWORD SAFETY: This is a good article on how to make your passwords strong and how to protect them. Everyone should know this. Especially if you shop or do your banking online.

HOME NETWORKING: Obviously, setting up a home network can be as simple or complex as you'd like.  Here's a basic guide to setting up a simple home wireless network.   And if you'd like to delve into it deeper, here's part 1 ("Home Networking Explained, Part 1") of a seven part series on home networking that explains everything.

Backing up

BACKING-UP If you take away nothing else from these pages, please understand how important it is to back up your data. That is, unless you want to lose your firstborn's irreplaceable baby pictures, or your tax returns you completed online the last few years. Your computer(s) will fail, can you restore your data? PC Magazine's The Beginner's Guide to PC Backup neatly lays out your options, whether you're a Windows user, a Mac user or whether you want to use one of the online backup solutions available.

PatchingUPDATING YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM Whether Windows or Mac, you must keep your operating system up-to-date. Microsoft and Apple constantly release updates and "patches" that fix newly-discovered security vulnerabilities, and if you don't install these, your system is more vulnerable to being hacked. Here's a great explanation of updating the Windows operating system, and here's Apple's own information for updating the Macintosh operating system. And here's how to keep your iPhones, iPads and iPod touch updated. Finally, you'll need to keep your applications updated, too! Never ends, does it?
